It didn’t begin in a boardroom, or with a single big idea—it began with two minds colliding over a shared obsession: What if AI could be built not just to think, but to reason—ethically, operationally, responsibly?
Jeff Smiley and Christopher Lent first teamed up over four years ago, not to chase trends, but to solve problems others avoided. Together, they tackled complex AI and cloud projects long before the rest of the world knew how deep the intelligence gap ran in enterprise.
Their early work—at Relevate—was less about flash and more about function. They helped some of the world’s most high-stakes environments rewire legacy tech into scalable systems of insight. But the deeper they went, the more they saw a universal truth: enterprise AI was broken.
It was fragmented. Ungoverned. And worse—dangerously detached from reality.
So in 2025, they made a leap.
They co-founded NEU AI—a new kind of AI company. One not defined by its hype, but by its architecture. Its integrity. Its refusal to compromise on the idea that AI should empower, not endanger. That governance must be embedded, not bolted on. That explainability isn’t a feature—it’s a foundation.
Jeff brought the engineering gravity—20+ years leading architecture at Google, Microsoft, Citadel, and JPMorgan. A systems thinker who builds frameworks that others use to build futures. Chris brought the commercial fire—23+ years in tech and medtech leadership, having scaled over 30 products globally and guided multiple exits. He’s the connective tissue between vision and velocity.
Together, they designed NEU AI to be what the market hadn’t yet demanded—but soon would:
